Upcoming Gigs
=============

- Friday, May 8th at the Cobalt.

The Cobalt has recently been converted into a club that
features live music acts. It has been cleaned up
considerably and they have just installed a brand new
sound system. Our gig will mark the 1 month anniversary
of its changeover.

The show is opening with a little excitement as Hiro,
the fire-eating Prince will be performing before the
bands begin. Apparently, he wears a grass skirt and
eats fire. Not many of us can say that. After Hiro
has completed charring his insides and has applied
the necessary aloe, Wayside will take the stage
and try to liven the audience without the use of fire.
This is assuming that Hiro's head doesn't explode and
the place doesn't burn down as a result. We may try
something a little different this time around though so
be warned.

Next on are Diesel Candy. This female-fronted band has
been around for about 5 years and has made a name for
itself. Recently however, they replaced their lead
singer and they hope to re-emerge with their new sound.
Their CD has been reviewed on the Dropd website. Check
it out: http://dropd.com

Do a search on that website for more info on them.

The headliners are called Technicians of the Sacred who
I'm told are good at what they do - however I'm not
quite sure what that is. However you can find a review
of one of their shows on the Dropd website:

http://dropd.com/issue/48/Vinaigrettes/index.html

If you can make it out to the gig, come early (around 9
to 10pm). If what was advertised in the Georgia Straight
was true then beer should only be $2.75 per beer. The
Cobalt is located at 917 Main Street near the Main
Skytrain station. It should be an entertaining night for
everyone.

Band News
=========

DEMOLISTEN DERBY - As most of you know, we were selected
as semi-finalists in CFOX 99.3FM's DemoListen Derby '98
contest. One of our songs received airplay (Discontent)
and got us into the live segment of the competition. We
played live at Studebaker's Cabaret in Burnaby in front
of a good sized crowd. Thanks to all of you who came out
to support us. Unfortunately, we didn't make the finals
but we did win some recording time to record a song for
the Vancouver Seeds 13 CD which is sent out to lots of
important industry people. It will also be available in
A & B Sound sometime at the end of this year or early
next year. Hopefully in June, we will get to work on
recording one of our new songs (Jubilee) which will be
featured on the Vancouver Seeds 13 CD.

HMV ROBSON GIG - We are scheduled for an instore
performance at HMV on Robson Street for Thursday July
2nd. It all begins at 8pm. We will keep you updated if
anything changes.

THE PROVINCE - We were mentioned in the Vancouver Province
Newspaper a few times. Tom Harrison described the sound of
our new CD as a "brighter, melodious modern rock". We'll
take that as a compliment.

CD IN STORES - We have spotted our CD in a number of stores
around town. It can be found in Sam The Record Man on
Seymour and HMV on Robson. It should also be available in
all the HMV's in the suburbs and Zulu records. Unfortunately,
A & B Sound on Seymour no longer is accepting CDs from
independent bands.
