As you may recall Wayside was our featured band for June 1998. This band hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, and has been hard at work since late 1996. I just received the band's debut release CD entitled '...Until now' to review. I was quite impressed with this 6 song masterpiece. The opening track 'DISCONTENT' really grabs you with its poppy guitar, driving rhythm, and great vocal lines. I definitely get the feel of the 80's pop music scene throughout this song and the entire CD. Sounds very similar to Platinum Blonde meets the ninety's and stone temple pilots, or killjoys <cool mix>. I was sure I nailed that comparison when I heard track 4 'MERGER', which was my personal favorite on the disc, this song opens with a cool guitar lick and drives right the end of the three minutes five seconds it's clocked at. The closing song 'UNDONE' keeps the same tempo and driving rhythm as the rest of the album but has a little less vocal polishing than the others. This offers a little different feel, adding some punk rock to the mixture. I really liked this album and hope to hear more from these guys in the future. I had wished there were more songs on this release because there isn't one thing on this disc to complain about. It's an A-1 job from the song writing to the recording to producing to the packaging. | |
