Wayside Readies For Next Round of bandFEST2002
==============================================
As many of you know Wayside is participating in BandFEST2002 Lower
Mainland (see details at www.bandfest.ca or www.wayside.ca). We have
advanced to the quarterfinals and our next showdown has been
announced. We are playing at Barfly (140 6th Street) in New West on
Wednesday June 26th at 9:30pm. While still not exactly on our home
turf, it's a lot closer than our last gig at Tommy's in Maple Ridge.
Once again we would like to make a plea for fan support. 20% of our
BandFEST score comes from the number of people we bring out and we
really need to max this score to move to the next round. Now for
the extra incentive:
THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE TO ARRIVE AT BARFLY AND SAY THEY ARE THERE FOR
WAYSIDE WILL WIN A BRAND NEW ******* WAYSIDE T-SHIRT *******
How's that for a deal.... the only catch is that you have to wear
the T-Shirt that night to do a little promotion for us (another 20%
of our score comes from promotion.)
Hope to see you there.

Wayside BandFest Reminder
=========================
Just wanted to give everyone a quick reminder of our BandFest show
tonight in Maple Ridge. Once again we would really appreciate the
support tonight as it will go a long way to help determine our
success in the contest. If you are coming tonight, we hit the
stage at 11:00pm. Please print out and bring one of the handbills
available here: http://www.wayside.dhs.org/2002jun3handbill.jpg
and make sure you let the doorman know you are there to see
Wayside. Anyway hope to see some of you there and make sure you
ask us about the free beer tonight.

Wayside Hits The Road For bandFEST2002
======================================
Wayside will begin its first tour on June 3rd... well sort
of.... here's the deal.
Wayside has been accepted as an entrant in BandFEST. This
is basically a round-based battle of the bands, etc...etc...
and we are in it... well sort of. We were supposed to
participate in the Vancouver area BandFEST but we had to
turn down our slot due to our drummer's solo tour of Ontario.
We have, however, been accepted into the Fraser Valley
version of BandFEST and are now scheduled to play at Tommy's
Bar and Grill in Maple Ridge on Monday, June 3rd.
This is where we need some help. A major component of the
judging criteria is fan support... and unless I'm mistaken
our fan base in Maple Ridge is pretty small.... so here's
the plea....
Come check us out at 11pm - Tommy's Bar and Grill - 22222
Lougheed Highway, Maple Ridge - Monday June 3rd.
We'll even buy a beer for everyone who comes to see us
(we're that desperate.) There are four bands competing that
night (first band is on at 9pm), and we are the third band
on at 11pm. Free beer, exciting road trip to Maple Ridge...
all with a Wayside soundtrack.
If you do intend to make it out that night, please print out
our handbill available here:
http://www.wayside.dhs.org/2002jun3handbill.jpg
and bring it with you to show to whoever is at the door.
Mention that you're there to see Wayside and all will be good.

Complete Rebirth
================
Wayside has had its fair share of imploding bassists. With all
the excitement, Mark, their keyboardist at the time, decided
to find out exactly what it was all about. So he packed up his
keys and chose to use his magic fingers for the purposes of good.
Thus our new bassist was born.
Enter Trent... A prototype of guitar mastery. A sensei to those
that don't know him but really really want to. He makes a mockery
of guitar greats with one strum. Trent was chosen to lead us into
temptation with his devilish glare and supernatural aura. New to
the band but old to our ways.
The Sticks of Chaos are the deadly weapons of our drummer Craig.
He has chosen to harness their power for musical enjoyment rather
than violence but those who cross him should fear for their
existence for the Sticks of Chaos will spare no one. Drums should
be wary too.
Our front man Chris has led by example all these years with his
unwavering determination and true grit. He changed his name from
"Brilliance" to "Chris" due to modesty but outsiders will agree
that he continually lives up to his birth name with his powerful
vocals and guitar trickery.
All have come together to share their abilities and talents with
those that come to witness them. The time is coming. See Wayside
this Friday April 26th 2002 at the Side Door (on Broadway, 2
blocks West of Arbutus.)
The Side Door is under new management and now features bands and
more seating space. We have been told that cover will be $5 before
11pm and $8 after 11pm. You may want to call ahead to confirm this.
There will be at least one other band. More details will be
available on our web site as soon as we get them. Come and partake
in the pleasure that a night of drinking and entertainment will
bring!

Wayside Selected for New Music West 2001
========================================
New Music West is one of the biggest West Coast music festivals in
Canada. It is an event that spans over four days (Thursday May 10th
to Sunday May 13th.) It features lots of excellent bands and a
variety of musical styles. It is a great chance for bands to meet
people in the industry and make a name for themselves. There were
over 1000 entries and just over 200 hundred bands selected. We were
selected as one of the bands to be featured in the New Music West
festival for the third year in a row. Wayside will be performing at
The Purple Onion Lounge on Thursday, May 10th 2001 at 12:00am sharp.
Derek Hemmes will be filling in on bass for Bill Semrau for this show.

THE LAST DAYS OF WAYSIDE
========================
Due to increasing pressure from the music industry and a recent legal
ruling, Wayside may be performing for the last time under their original
moniker. Repeated threats from other "Wayside's" around the US and
mounting legal costs have finally broken the bands resolve and last
ditch efforts to save the name have failed. So its under these
circumstances that Wayside announces its comeback and farewell show on
Friday, March 9th at the Stonehouse on Richards and Nelson. It will be
an early evening show with Wayside taking the stage at approx 9:30 pm.
They will be supported by a performance from Tammy Brimner at 8:00pm.
Space may be limited so come early to get good seats. Remember this may
be your last chance to witness a tiny piece of music history.....before
Wayside rebuilds and becomes...........<INSERT ANY OF THE RUMORED NEW

with Protoculture
[See www.wayside.dhs.org for a map]
Thursday, November 9th 2000
On Stage at 10:00pm.
After a year's absence from the band, Bill Semrau has taken over bass
duties from Derek Hemmes. The past month has been spent rehearsing old
songs and working on new material. Bill is ready to return to the world
of Corporate Rock! The addition of Bill is promising with solid bass
playing and an extra set of vocals adding more harmonies to the Wayside
songs.
Wayside's first gig with returning bassist Bill Semrau is scheduled for
the Marine Club (phone: 683-1720) on Thursday November 9th 2000.
Wayside will be opening for a band called Protoculture (formerly known as
South Of Main.) This is a reunion of sorts as both bands haven't
performed together few quite a few years.
Wayside goes on stage at 10:00pm with Protoculture following soon after.

Wayside @ the Railway Club [579 Dunsmuir (Seymour & Dunsmuir)]
with Jack Assassin and Sarah Cheevers
Saturday, June 24th
Doors at 9pm
Wayside will be finishing up their world wide tour with a special
performance in their hometown of Vancouver at the Railway Club.
The final performance of the "Tendency To Pose" tour is one that
the band members have been looking forward to with tremendous
zeal. And why not? The Railway Club has long been revered as an
excellent club for both the musician and the audience member.
It is that good.
Sarah Cheevers will be opening the set some time after 9pm. Jack
Assassin will follow with their mix of Lenny Kravitz meets U2 in
a techno-rock kind of way. The headliners, Wayside, will then
maintain the sonic energy until night's end.

Wayside Returns
***************
Rumours of their demise have been greatly exaggerated - Wayside returns for
two more installments of their Millenium Concert Series. Featuring new
songs, a new energy and brand new choreographed dance steps the foursome
hopes their transition from high-energy rock to 4-part harmony "boy band"
pop will be a smooth one. Recent comparisons to boy-band legends N'Sync and
the Backstreet Boys have encouraged the band but insiders have worried that
certain band members will not be up to strain of 2-solid hours of dance
numbers.
Regardless, the band hopes to cash in on this new look and sound with two
upcoming shows:
Thursday May 11th at The Purple Onion (11:00 pm)
15 Water Street, Gastown
Part of the New Music West extravaganza
Tuesday May 16th at The Backstage Lounge [Arts Club Theatre] (10:00 pm)
1585 Johnston, Granville Island
With headliners Feisty (11:00pm)
Only $5 cover.

Upcoming Gigs
=============
* Sunday January 23rd 2000 - The Purple Onion @ 9:00pm.
15 Water Street (at the corner of Water Street and Carral Street.)
Come and enjoy the splendor of the Purple Onion environment. [it rocks]
Wall to wall couches, a variety of musical styles and a place to relax
and enjoy yourselves. [geez... one track minds] Enjoy the evening by
spending it with us. [we don't bite... everyone] Meet people, have a
few drinks, relax and soak in the entertainment. [and the alcohol]
The lineup begins with Tammy Brimner whose catchy melodies and phenominal
voice are backed by the soothing sounds of the acoustic guitar. [Dr.Pepper
anyone?] Soon after... Wayside will take to the stage with their hook-laden
pseudo corporate pop rock. [Time for some JD] Speedbump will perform last
and will be introducing a new bass player to their energetic guitar-driven
sound. [And now for the heavy stuff]
The Purple Onion closes at midnight on Sunday so it should be an early
night for those of you working the next day. So cancel your other plans
and help support the Vancouver music scene.

* Thursday November 4th - The Starfish Room @ 10:00pm (sharp.)
1055 Homer Street (between Nelson and Helmcken)
If you're looking for a night of catchy pop/rock, you will
enjoy this reunion. The Special Guests, The Salteens and
Wayside have played together before - almost a year ago.
They've come together once again to play for you at one of
Vancouver's Best music venues - The Starfish Room (1055
Homer.)
The Special Guests have just been signed to a multi-record
deal by Attic who originally signed The Tragically Hip and
The Watchmen. Come and see why. This will be their last show
before they start working on their new album.
Derek Hemmes, former and now current bassist of Wayside, has
made a comeback of sorts. Returning from surfing heaven on
the west coast of Africa, he is finally back and ready to
rock. He will be in the lineup for Thursday night's show.
Doors open at 9pm. Wayside goes on at 10pm sharp. Book
Thursday November 4th off and come and see some of the best
bands Vancouver has to offer.

Upcoming Gigs
=============
* Friday September 24th (Tonight!) - The Columbia Hotel @ 10:30pm.
303 Columbia Street (near Gastown.)
After 6 months, Wayside's former bassist (Derek Hemmes) has
returned from the untamed shores of Africa. Finally replacing
his surf board for his bass - he's back but not quite yet. The
gig tonight will celebrate our last gig with Bill Semrau - (much
more than) interim bassist. We really appreciate the effort he
put in over the last 6 months.
Sturno will be headlining the show. Beer is really cheap and the
atmosphere is great. Come early and prepare with a little drink.

* Wednesday August 18th - The Marble Room @ 11:30pm.
* Saturday August 21st - The Railway Club @ 10:00pm.
In a surprise move, Wayside has been chosen to play at a club that no one
has ever heard of. Not to be confused with the Marble Arch, the Marble Room
is located at Broadway and Main (315 E. Broadway) and it will host a talent
search for a couple bands including us. We're on just after 11pm on
Wednesday August 18th. Come and cheer us on.
The Railway Club is well known for live music and great times. It has a
nice cosy atmosphere, a great reputation and a wide range of beer. They
always seem to feature some great local talent. We're hoping to continue
that tradition. This will be our first time playing at The Railway Club so
we're looking forward to it.
We're opening the show at 10pm for Diesel Candy and Siobhan Duvall on
Saturday August 21st.

The Picadilly Pub (New Music West)
(620 West Pender - near Pender and Seymour)
Well its that time again.... New Music West rolls into Vancouver bringing
some of the best local and not-so-local bands for a three day celebration
of Canadian talent...or its time for three nights of drunken stumbling from
bar to bar checking out a bunch of bands you've never heard of...take the
description that suits you best.
The difference this time is that Wayside is actually in the line-up of
bands instead of participating in the drunken stumbling from venue to venue
(well at least until they have performed). After a month or so of bass
player turmoil...Bill Semrau has stepped up and will fill the shoes of
"lost in Africa" Derek Hemmes. The New Music West show will be his Wayside
debut so no pressure there for the guy..
The show is on Friday May 7 9:30 (sharp) at the Picadilly...also playing
is Amoral Minority, Satsuma and Flannel Jimmy....wristbands for the
festival are available at Ticketmaster and single event tickets may be
available at the venue. For more details check out:

* Friday, February 19th at The Columbia
(303 Columbia St.)
The "relentless hooks" of Wayside return to the Columbia
Friday February 19. Fresh from a flattering review in
the local music paper "The Discorder", Wayside is ready
to bring the new grit to their first show of the '99
season.
Armed with with 3 new songs and supporting cast of veteran
anthems, anticipation is high for a solid night of high
energy debauchery. Wayside has been quoted as saying: "We
are really excited about the new lineup, if we come out
and play hard and do the little things right we should
expect some positive results."
This may also prove to be the last performance for veteran
bass player Derek Hemmes before he begins his 5 month
holdout for a new contract. Sources close to the band expect
him to go out in a drunken haze of glory and management is
optimistic he will return later in the 99 season.
Also appearing at Columbia are Sonic Revival, Walt's Darling
and Speedbore. The excitement gets underway at 9pm sharp
and don't forget to stick around for the post-game show
featuring the usual drunken antics.
Wayside is going all the way... they will not be denied.
Disclaimer: Wayside is in no way endorsed by the Vancouver
Canucks or the National Hockey League and is in fact a rock
band playing the Columbia on Friday February 19th. Sorry for
any confusion this press release might have created.

Upcoming Gigs
=-=-=-=-=-=-=
* Wednesday, December 16th at The Columbia
(303 Columbia St.)
It's been over a year since the last time Wayside graced
the stage of The Columbia. Both the band and the venue
have risen to new heights and on Wednesday, December 16
they will reunite to bring you one night of unforgettable
pleasure. Hungry for the stage, Wayside has refined its
show into a seamless package of Wayside classics and
driving new offerings sure to please both the fan and the
fanatic. But this time Wayside is not alone....
Before their 10pm onslaught begins, Columbia patrons will
be treated to the melodic offerings of the Tammy Brimner
Band (9:15). Already a staple of the coffeehouse circuit,
the TBB are sure to warm the night up in style.
Following the eagerly anticipated Wayside extravaganza
comes the dual assault of The Special Guests (11pm) and the
Salteens (12pm). Hailing from the sleazy underbelly of the
Victoria music scene, The Special Guests! have continued to
impress with their infectious, sugary concoctions. The
Salteens finish up this night of passion in style at 12:00pm.
Their upbeat poppy jams are the perfect companion to the
drunken debauchery renowned at the Columbia.
$5.00 gets you all this and more...and what the hell else are
you going to do on a Wednesday night?

* The Wayside Webpage has moved due to the high web
traffic they have been experiencing. You can now find all
the stuff you wanted to know about the band at:
http://www.wayside.ml.org
* As a prize for the CFOX/PMIA Demolisten Derby '98
contest, we will be featured on a compilation CD called
Vancouver Seeds 13. It features the hot new Wayside track
"Jubilee" already a fan favourite and sometime sing along
song. Buy it so you won't be left out of the action. The
CD has been delayed until January but then you can pick it
up at A&B sound.
* Wayside's debut CD "...until now" was reviewed in
September by the Georgia Straight with favourable comments:
"The six songs on ...Until Now are well-composed and tightly
played, and Craig Zurba's production is polished. Any one
of these tracks would be a natural fit on CFOX, wedged
somewhere between the Gin Blossoms and Age of Electric on a
weekday afternoon. In short, this EP sounds great..." For
the full review, check the Wayside web page at

Upcoming Gigs
=============
* Sunday, September 27th at Club Mora (6 Powell St.)
To open the show, Tammy Brimner will perform a short
acoustic set. Tammy played numerous coffee houses around UBC
but this will be her first club performance. We'll play
second on the bill and hope to introduce some new material.
Bored of Authority (BOA) will headline.
Club Mora is a relatively new club located in Gastown.
It used to be the old Gastown Music Hall. They began booking
bands there about a month ago. It's on 6 Powell Street which
is diagonally across from The Purple Onion.
* Sunday, October 4th at The Purple Onion.
This will be a Vancouver Aquarium benefit show to
support the Seal Rehab Foundation. We will open the show at
9pm, followed by Speedbump. Helen's Motor are headlining.
This will be Speedbump's first gig after taking the summer
off. Come out and support a good cause.

* We returned to the studio in late August and early
September to record a song called "Jubilee" which will be
featured on the upcoming Vancouver Seeds 13 CD. The top ten
bands from CFOX's Demolisten Derby 98 will be included on
this compilation. Vancouver Seeds 13 CD should be available
in late October at A&B Sound.
* Our debut CD "...until now" was reviewed by giglink.com.
Visit http://www.giglink.com and check out the "Reviews of You"
section.
* We now have our own News Conference and Chat room. It's
pretty new so you might not find too much there yet. Hopefully,
it will expand and take off. You can also find full length
RealAudio files of two of our songs - Discontent and Return To
Begin. Sign up, leave messages, get things rolling....

* Coming soon: The Wayside Webpage will move to a more
memorable address. Stay tuned for more info...

Upcoming Gigs
=============
- Saturday, May 23rd at the Columbia.
Just announced: We're playing downtown at the Columbia
which is located at 303 Columbia Street in Gastown. It's
one block east of Carral Street (where the Blarney Stone
is.) Solarbaby will be the other band playing that
night. There will also be a third band which has yet to
be booked. The show starts at around 10:00pm or so.
- Thursday, July 2nd at HMV Robson.
This will be an instore performance. It should be quite
crowded being the day after Canada Day. The performance
will begin at 8pm. CD's are currently available at HMV
and Sam's.
Band News
=========
- Our plans for June include recording a new song (most
likely Jubilee) for the Vancouver Seeds 13 CD as part of
the CFOX's DemoListen Derby prize. We won some free
recording time for this purpose.
- There is a video clip of our Cobalt gig online at:
http://thejam.com/live/concerts.html
Scroll down to Wayside and click on the picture. You
will need RealPlayer to view it - available for free at:
http://www.realplayer.com
Unfortunately, the guy who recorded it was using a home
video camera and the sound quality was not that great.
However, it will give you an idea of what we sound
like... The song that is featured online is called "Pop
Song". It's the fifth song on our CD. For a indepth look
at our Cobalt gig, check out the news section of our
homepage-> http://www.interchange.ubc.ca/cjdeas/wayside.html
- On May 17th 1998 at 11:17am, our web page counter
reached the 1000 mark! And it's not one of those cheapo
counters that increments every time you hit the reload
button. It detects if you have visited the site before
or not. This calls for a celebration. We'll be partying
at the Columbia on Saturday(23rd). Join in on the fun.
- We are no longer a College band.
